Memorial Cathedral for World Peace

The Memorial Cathedral for World Peace was reconstructed with the support of the Pope and the Catholic Church on the initiative of Father Hugo M, Enomiya-Lassalle, who had experienced the explosion of the atomic bomb.

The cathedral was constructed from concrete brick made from the soil of Hiroshima which contained the ashes of the bomb. The number of bricks used is said to roughly equal the number of lives lost in the blast.
